"My love of figurative art, life drawing and painting has inspired the current series of playful explorations of the human form. Using distortion, I blur the line between beauty and the grotesque, while still retaining a sense of lightness and character.
I paint from a range of subjects - life models, classical masterpieces, conceptual ideas. I interpret all the elements in my paintings from the way the light falls, poses struck, colour, anatomy to personality.
Using the texture of the canvas and thickly applied gesso, I create layers of paint. In this way I feel I am "sculpting with light" and creating interplay between colour, light and darkness" Tony Giles
