Debra Nangala

Debra was born 1969 at Papunya Camp. Born in to an artistic family, She was destined to became a very renown artist .  Debra  is the grand daughter of the late Shorty Lungkata Tjungurrayi. Shorty was a Pintupi man from Lake MacDonald in the Gibson Desert. Later she moved to Haasts Bluff and Papunya, both Debra and Shorty's stories refer to his country of Lake MacDonald. Debra was married to the nephew of Turkey Tolson and son of the great female artist Mitjili. 

 

The Dreaming depicted in Her paintings revolves around the site known as Lungkarta (home of the blue tongue lizard). In this painting Debra tells the story of woman digging for honey ants, in all her paintings Debra uses the skills she has learnt from her family of very renown aboriginal artists.
